Introduced on September 4, 1985, the Israeli New Shekel (sheqel) replaced the old shekel at a rate of 1,000 old sheqalim = 1 new sheqel. The coins listed here are 1 New Sheqel coins. (Shekel or Sheqel is singular. Sheqalim or Shekalim is plural. )
The 1 New Sheqel coin earrings are encircled by a handmade 14kt gold filled bezel and connected to a 14kt gold filled ear post and extra large ear nuts, 10mm. The larger ear nuts will provide more comfort and security then just plain ear wires. A special gold filled bezel wire is used to make this handmade bezel; the outside wire is rounded while the inside of the wire is grooved so that the coin fits inside the bezel. Once the bezel wire is cut, the two ends are filed, then soldered together using gold solder, then polished to a satin finish. The coin then is placed within the bezel. The top of the bezel is then shaped into a loop.
The mounted coin earrings are 1 1/8 inch (29mm) in length almost ¾ inch (19mm) wide . Ear nuts and posts are 14kt gold filled. Extra large ear nuts are 10mm for security and comfort, made of 14kt gold filled.
