Ham radio enthusiasts will love this coin pendant. This 100 Lira coin is a commemorative coin celebrating the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, known for his pioneering work on long distance radio transmission. This 100 Lira Italian coin shows two dates, 1874, the birth date of Marconi, and 1974, the mint year. It is mounted into a handmade 14kt gold filled bezel. A 14kt gold filled corrugated bail is used to attach the coin pendant to a 14kt yellow gold filled oval link chain necklace, width of chain is 2.2mm. The gold filled chain necklace is 18 inch long ; Made in the USA.
A special gold filled bezel wire is used to make this handmade bezel; the outside wire is rounded while the inside of the wire is grooved so that the coin fits inside the bezel. Once the bezel wire is cut, the two ends are filed then soldered together using hard gold solder, then polished. The coin then is placed within the bezel. The top of the bezel is then shaped into a loop to accommodate a gold filled bail.
Guglielmo Marconi was an Italian inventor, known for his pioneering work on long distance radio transmission and for his development of Marconi's law and a radio telegraph system. Other inventors such as Popov, Tesla, and Bose have made claims to its first discovery; however, Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) developed, demonstrated and marketed the first successful long-distance wireless telegraph and in 1901 broadcast the first transatlantic radio signal. His company's Marconi radios ended the isolation of ocean travel and saved hundreds of lives, including all of the surviving passengers from the sinking Titanic. In 1909 he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for his radio work.
The obverse side shows the portrait of Guglielmo Marconi with the words, REPVBBLICA ITALIANA.
