Indian head penny coin earrings, are mounted in 14 kt gold filled handmade bezels. This is a unique handmade earring design that you will only find here. Coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1859 to 1909. These coins are dated 1900 and 1908; coins that over 100 years old! Two gold filled oval jump rings connect these coins to a 14 kt gold filled 5mm ball post earrings. The ear nuts are also 14 kt gold filled and are a size large enough to secure the earrings to your ears. The ear nuts are 8mm in size and was chosen so that they fit comfortably, are easy to handle, and can hold those coin earrings onto your ears. The mounted coins are 20mm in diameter. These would make a great gift for someone who likes to collect old US coins.
The history behind this coin was graciously given to me by a customer who is a descendant of the Longacre family. Chief US Mint Designer and Engraver James B. Longacre proposed the Indian Head penny as a quintessentially American coin. His model was his daughter Sarah Longacre. Sarah is shown wearing Sitting Bulls War Bonnet. The Indian Head One Cent is a Caucasian female in a Native American Head Dress not Lady Liberty wearing a head dress. The Coin started as a family sketch that then turned into a timeless engraving for the US mint. Sarah being of a mixed descent, Dutch & Cherokee. This coin represents unity and the merger of the two races on the one cent coin The word Liberty was placed on the Ribbon that runs down the Head Dress to show the right to be and choose to be free for all people.
